The Prospective Urban - Rural Health Evaluation (PURE) Study-
   
This is a prospective cohort study to determine risk factors in heart disease. This is a study performed in collaboration with the Institute of Population Health, McMaster University, Canada, to conduct a longitudinal study on established and novel risk factors for chronic disease. It also looks at the urban-rural divide and has presently recruited about 10,000 subjects split evenly between Bangalore urban, and a rural site in PalamnerTaluk, Chittoor Dist, AP.The subjects are between 35 to 70 years of age, and have been well characterized for phenotype, and samples of plasma stored for future biochemical analyses. The study was initiated in 2000, and is now in the second phase of follow up.
