Evaluation of mental health status and access to health care among the elderly
 
This study funded by WHO is aimed at examining the prevalence of all cause disability among the elderly (> 65 years) residing in an urban community. Face-to-face interviews were conducted among 600 persons using the WHO disability schedule that looked at disease, environment related impact on disability and role performance.
 
Development and evaluation of treatment services for depression in rural areas
 
Common Mental disorders such as depression often goes unrecognized by PHC physicians resulting in considerable disability and morbidity. This study part funded by Rotary Foundation International (U.S.A) examined the impact of treatment with antidepressants on outcome of depression. A related study with budgetary support from Anuradha Foundation, U.S.A is currently examining the role of enhanced community support in increasing retention rates in the treatment among patients with depression.
 
Autonomic function in stress, anxiety disorders, depression and
  chronic alcoholism.
 
Autonomic regulation using both conventional autonomic tests and spectral measures of heart rate and blood pressure variability are being studied in both adults and children with anxiety disorders, major depression and in subjects with alcohol dependence syndrome.
