  A Two-Year Health Research Mentorship Program
  Deadline for receipt of applications is extended to : 25th August, 2009 (2 years, 6 candidates)
 
Selected candidates will
 
Identify a senior faculty / consultant in the same institution who will act as an internal mentor. This person will support the candidate with scientific and operational aspects.
Be paired with an external mentor who is an experienced researcher from India or abroad on to one-to-one basis.
Attend the two-week workshop on Health Research Methodology at St Johns
Select from the several available research areas in CVD and diabetes to work on for two years.
Mentors will work closely with the candidates on a research project over 2 years. At the end of two years, committed candidate (50%) will get funded for one year full-time advanced research training.

Unique Features of the two-year Research Mentorship Program
Researchers will continue to be employed at their home institution / hospital while undergoing the two-year training.
Training will occur regularly through the mentors via emails, teleconferences and web seminars.
Two research methodology workshops at St Johns each lasting 2 weeks. All costs will be covered by St Johns. Both Internal and external mentors will attend.
No Registration or other fees
Funds (up to 5.0 lakhs) per candidate available for the research project.
Following this program, selected candidates can go for full-time advanced research training that will be fully funded by St Johns.

Primary prevention of CVD / DM
Secondary prevention of CVD/ DM
Research Ethics
Clinical Trials in CVD/ DM
Perioperative Cardiac Ischemia
Chronic Lung Disease and CVD risk
Barriers to CVD care in India
Guidelines for CVD management in primary and secondary care.
 


Who Can Apply

Health professionals ( doctors, nurses, pharmacist) , 40 years of age, within 5 years of masters level or higher qualifications, (MD, MS, DM, MSc, MPH, MPharm, etc) and employed on a regular basis(>1 year) within an institution in India. These criteria may be relaxed for exceptional candidates.

Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to conduct health research in chronic disease in India, especially in cardiovascular disease or diabetes.
  • Academic credentials
  • Active Involvement in clinical work, teaching, research or national public health services
