Hyperlipidemia is one of the cardinal features of nephrotic syndrome (NS). The true significance of these alterations is not known as there are no long term studies which have evaluated the effect of dyslipidemia in NS. It is not known whether hyperlipidemia is persistent in children being treated for steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome. We also have no data to determine if frequent relapsers and steroid dependents have significant or persistent hyperlipidemia as compared to infrequent relapsers. This study will help us in finding these answers by tracking the lipid profile in children with nephrotic syndrome over a period of 2 years.
